Edith Dircksey

In 1861 -  She was born in Western Australia

In 1868 -  Her mother's died in childbirth

In 1876  -   Her adolescence was shattered

In 1879  - Married James Cowan

Between 1880- 1891  -  They had five children 

In 1890  - Became involved in voluntary 

In 1894  - Alexandra Home for Women

In 1906 - A foundation member of the Children's Protection Society 

In 1907 - set up the Children's Court

In 1909 - She pioneered nursery for working mother's children

In 1911 - Was prominent in the creation of the Western Australian National Council of Women

In 1916 -  Leded finally to the opening of the King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women

In 1917  The first women appointed to its bench

In 1920 - She was  an early woman justice of the peace and constantly urged the appointment of women to such positions, she took on a wide range of war work

Between 1903 and 1912 - She went overseas delegate to the sixth convention of the International Council

In 1923  - The Women's Legal Status,  introduced  as a private member, opened the legal profession to women

In 1924 - She lost  elections West Perth 

In 1926 - She was a founder of the (Royal) Western Australian Historical Society

In 1927  -  She failed again

In 1929 - She was active in planning the State's  centenary celebrations

In 1932 - She died
